Oak wilt program set for Kendall County
Contributed
For residents of the Texas Hill Country, it’s not a matter of if, but when, they will be impacted by oak wilt.
Oak wilt is a fungal disease that is deadly to Live Oak and Red Oak trees, but there is hope. With proper identification and prevention management, landowners can keep this disease from devastating their oak trees.
The Bandera and Kendall County offices of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service will sponsor a program to address oak wilt from 5:30 to 8 pm, Thursday, June 3. The program will be held at the Majestic Ranch Art Foundation, 543 Highway 46, between Boerne and Pipe Creek. The ranch is located about a mile inside the Kendall County line. Registration begins at 5 pm.
Speakers with the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Texas Forest Service and local experts will be on hand to discuss all aspects of Oak Wilt management, including roper pruning, oak wilt identification, fungicide injection and trenching. The program will be held outdoors so participants are asked to dress comfortably.
Three continuing education credits (CEUs) with one in PM and two in general will be given to those attending who have pesticide applicators licenses.
