Speaker Straus to address Kendall Co. Republican Women

Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus will serve as guest speaker during the Kendall County Republican Women’s annual “Back to School” Luncheon, beginning at 11:30 pm, Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Ye Kendall Inn in Boerne.
His topic will be “The Future of the GOP.”
Straus recently completed his first term as speaker in the 81st Legislative Session. The speaker serves as the legislature’s presiding officer. He represents District 121, which includes Alamo Heights, Olmos Park, Terrell Hills, Windcrest and Northeast San Antonio.
Straus was first elected to the Texas House in a special election in February 2005. During his tenure, he has served as vice chairman for the Committee on Economic Development. Additionally, he was also appointed to the Committee on Regulated Industries where he developed a major bill that put Texas on the cutting edge of energy efficiency, and on the Select Committee on Electric Generation Capacity and Environmental Effects.
Among Straus’s notable awards is the Defender of the American Dream Award in 2008 from Americans for Prosperity for his commitment to protecting taxpayers and the Legislative Service Award by the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club for his work in energy efficiency.
