‘Rhythm & Rhymes’ joins Medina River Cleanup

Contributed

Local area talent will gather at the river Saturday, May 2, to celebrate Bandera’s most valuable natural resource at the 9th annual Medina River Cleanup.

A barbecue and musical entertainment will top off a full day of cleaning 50 miles of the river from its inception in northwest Bandera County to Medina Lake.

Local performers are sponsored by “Rhythm & Rhymes,” organized by Beto Pachecano and the Medina Lake Preservation Society. “Rhythm & Rhymes” usually meets on the last Tuesday of each month at Turk’s Deli in Lakehills. Instead, it will take place on May 2 in conjunction with the Medina River Cleanup. For the most part, songs and poetry will focus on a river theme.
Pachecano announced that, to date, five local performing artists will perform on May 2, including:

• Fred Blume, guitarist and singer from Pipe Creek.

• Dale Rudd, guitarist and singer from Mico.

• Carole Beth Pachecano, a guitarist, singer and songwriter, will perform Portuguese folksongs and river-themed parodies of familiar American songs.

• Kathy Bates, Lakehills guitarist, singer and songwriter.

• Chase Jones, a guitarist, singer and songwriter from Rio Medina, who is lead singer in Cloud Nine Band.

Last year 175 cleanup participants, ranging in age from four years to 80 years, pitched in from 30 Texas cities and towns. Half were residents of Bandera County.
