Join Helotes Humane Society & help homeless friends

Contributed

Membership drives the good works of the Helotes Humane Society and January brings the organization’s 2009 membership drive. Members can participate in the HHS online site and will also receive quarterly newsletters.

New for 2009, HHS members qualify to join Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union, which offers special rates to HHS members.

In addition, the Helotes Humane Society is now looking for additional fosters families. As always, the spring will bring many new litters of pups and kittens that will need temporary homes.  Additionally, a larger than normal amount of pups in HHS care will also need foster homes after being weaned and while waiting to be old enough for adoption.

Saturday, Jan. has shaped up to be a very busy day for Helotes Humane Society with three events scheduled on that day:

• Pet Food Bank Distribution - 9 am until 10 am, Helotes City Hall parking lot, 12951 Bandera Road
Pet food is distributed the first Saturday each month. Individuals may pick up food from 9 am until 9:30 am and organizations from 9:30 am to 10 am. Fosters and rescue organizations are welcome, and food donations are welcome, as well.
For more information or to apply to be a recipient, contact Stephanie Dunlea at Pet Pantry Direct 210-521-0293 or  hhspetfoodbank@yahoo.com.

• Pet Health and Welfare Day - 10 am until 4 pm, MarketPlace at Old Town Helotes
To protect pets, the following will be available microchipping, $20; veterinary and health information; spay and neuter information; and 2009 HHS Membership Drive and foster family registration begins. In addition, mini Schnauzer mixes, Jan and Dean, will be available for adoption. Come and meet these sweet pups.

• Adoptions at Petco - 11 am to 3 pm, adoptions at Petco Northwest, 11398 Bandera Road, #403, just inside Loop 1604.
Beginning in January, Helotes Humane Society will hold regular monthly adoptions on the first Saturday of each month at this Petco location.

Another animal related event scheduled in January includes:
• Feral Cat Awareness Day: TNR (Trap, Neuter and release) Workshop from 10 am to 1 pm, Jan. 10, Helotes Nature Center, 12492 Bandera Road, across from Floore’s General Store.
A representative from the San Antonio Feral Cat Association will provide information on controlling feral cat populations. If weather permits, a cat adoption will also be held. Prior to the workshop, cat fanciers are invited to a “meet and greet” with refreshments.
