Fredericksburg Billies blast Bandera Bulldogs

By Brady Keane BCC contributor

Last Friday, Jan. 20, the Bandera boys varsity basketball squad battled with the Fredericksburg Billies, losing by a score of 68-40. The boys were overpowered in all but one quarter, but did show the ability to play with a very high-powered Fredericksburg team in two of the four quarters.
"Turnovers hurt us a lot, because we didn't get a chance to shoot the ball 22 different times," freshman Ty Neff said.
With 22 turnovers in the game, Bandera couldn't afford the miscues against an already quick scoring team. In spite of being out-played on the scoreboard, Aaron Shackelford showed his hustle on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, grabbing 15 total rebounds throughout the game.
Bandera's offense had trouble getting going with the glut of turnovers, but in the second and fourth quarters the Bulldogs showed the ability to play with the Billies.
Blake Keller led the team with 10 points, shooting an impressive 66 percent from the court in the game, while Ryan Walker added 9 points on while contributing 3 steals.
"We don't need to go into business for our selves," junior Blake Keller said. "We need to play as a team, and work for higher percentage shots."
Following Keller and Walker were senior Wes Overley with 6, senior Kyle Monroe with 5, Neff and Shackelford with 4, and senior Gabe Macias with 1.
The Bulldogs took on Canyon Lake Tuesday. This game started the second round of district, and the Bulldogs are now 1-5 in district play.

"We have the ability to improve our record," Keller said. "We just have to step up for the last six games of the season."
