Bulldogs JV bash Hawks in district opener

The Bandera Basketball JV boys opened district play with an easy win over the Canyon Lake Hawks 40-23.

"Obviously the Christmas break didn't hurt us because we won 40-23, and we had tight D," Junior Aaron Arradondo said. The Bulldogs did have great defense, only allowing five points in the first quarter, but only collecting three for themselves, ending the first with a score of 5-3 in the Hawks favor.

The Bulldogs stepped up in the second, scoring 12 and only allowing three, having a halftime score of 15-8, with the Bulldogs on top.

The Bulldogs continued the great defense into the third only giving up four points to the Hawks' nine. This gave the Bulldogs a comfortable 12-point lead going into the fourth.

"The reason they couldn't get much offence going is because they couldn't handle our 2-3 zone," sophomore Marshall Beightol said. In the fourth, the Bulldogs wanted to put even more distance between them, which is just what they did, coming out with a 17-point victory.

The team was lead by sophomore CJ Shade scoring 12, junior Richie Mauier 9, sophomore Devon Adamson 7, junior Stevie Chessir 5, Arradondo 4, Ish MacNeil 2, and Beightol 1.

This win improved their record to (5-5), (1-0) in district play. They resumed play at Navarro Tuesday, Jan. 3, to take on the Panthers.

The squad will host Boerne Friday when the Freshmen, JV and Varsity play. Games begin at 5 pm.
