By Luke Sheets
The Bandera Middle School seventh grade boys’ basketball teams competed at home against the Devine Warhorses this past week, making a clean sweep of their opponents.
Starting with the B Team game, both contests were hard fought. The BMS Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-7 halftime lead only to see the Warhorses pull back to within three points at the end of the third quarter with a score of 17-14.
Both teams put together their best offensive quarter of the night in the fourth with the game ending 30-23 victory for the Bulldogs. Outstanding players of the game were Kyle Bauml and Jesse Alba for their timely scoring and excellent decision making throughout the competition.
The A Team game proved to be an even greater challenge for the Bulldogs. The Warhorses came to Bandera looking for revenge to make up for the Bulldogs’ victory over Devine in the recent Hondo Tournament.
The Warhorses quickly jumped out to a commanding first half lead of 11-21. However, the Bulldogs came back in the second half focused and determined. The Dogs’ defense stepped up, holding the Warhorses to just four points in the third. Benefiting from timely turnovers and easy baskets, the Bulldog offense added 13 points, ending the third quarter trailing only 24-25. The fourth quarter proved much the same as the Bulldogs completed the comeback with a final score of 38-27. Outstanding players of the game were Noah Nelson, Ty Neff and Landon Ventura, who scored 10 points each. Defensive players of the game were Luke Williams, Landon Ventura and Ty Neff.
