Southpaw pitcher Billy Decker lets one rip against the Billies.
The last ten days have been another busy time in Baseball country. Our Varsity boys have been in some close ball games as we try and navigate our way into the State Playoffs.
On Tuesday, March 21, the Varsity Bulldogs traveled to Hondo in game four of district play. The previous Friday night the boys pulled out a 6-5 win in a great ball game. The rematch was no different, but this time Hondo found a way to win 5-4 in another back and forth game.
Dakota Goode threw 4 2/3 innings on the mound with Billy Decker coming in to throw the final 1 1/3 innings in relief. Offensively we were led by Carson Wilke (1-3 2 RBI's), Decker (1-3 RBI, Run Scored) and Casey Harp (2-3 Run Scored).
On Friday, March 24, the boys traveled to Fredericksburg for game five of district play. Again, this was a close game throughout most of the contest until Fred scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs that allowed them to take control and win 5-0.
Casey Harp toed the rubber for the Bulldogs and threw 4 1/3 innings of solid baseball. Brandon Chamberlain came on in relief and finished the last 1 2/3 innings of work.
On Tuesday, March 28, the Varsity boys squared off with Fredericksburg in game six of district play. This was another night in district 28-AAAA with it being a back and forth tilt. The Billies sent their ace and LSU pitching commit to the mound and we countered with our Hill JC commit Billy Decker. It was a great pitching dual throughout the first few innings. There were several lead changes through the first five innings.
In the bottom of the sixth with the scored tied at four, our boys found a way to scratch three huge runs and pull out a 7-6 victory against Fred.
Offensively we were led by Trey Schwarz (2-3 RBI, Run Scored, BB), Reese Jennings (1-3 Run Scored) and Casey Harp (RBI, BB, Run Scored).
Bulldogs overall record is 10-5 and District record is 2-4. The Bulldogs will host Canyon Lake this Friday night and celebrate teacher appreciation. The game starts at 7 pm.
