Bulldogs advance to Area championships

Eight Bandera Bulldogs qualified in seven different events for the 2017 UIL District 27-4A/District 28-4A Area Championships on April 19, at Canyon Lake High School. Qualifiers finished in the top four places at the District 28-4A Championships at Fredericksburg High School on April 5-6.
“We definitely have a good chance to advance athletes to the Region IV Championships at Texas A&M in Kingsville,” Head Boys Track Coach Tyler Wanek said. “We just need one good week of practice and hard work.”
The Varsity Bulldogs finished in fifth place with 63 points, competing against Boerne, Fredericksburg, Hondo and Canyon Lake.
Zach Markgraf finished in second place in the 300M Hurdles with a time of 40.99, and third place in the 110M Hurdles with a time of 15.87, qualifying for Area in both events.
Jason Mayhew also captured a silver medal and Area advancement, placing second in Shot Put with a distance of 41' 4.75."
Earning bronze medals and advancing to the Area Championships are Josh Jauer with a third place in Discus with a distance of 126' 6” and Kaelan Herbert placing third in Triple Jump with a distance of 41' 5.”
The third place 4X100M Relay team consisting of Alexander Cardenas, Thomas Cardenas, Ryan Smith and Wyatt Blair qualified for Area with a time of 43.91.
The Cardenas brothers and Smith teamed with Isaac Bourg on the 4X200M Relay, finishing in fourth place with a time of 1:32.5 and earning a spot at Area.
Also placing in the top six for the Bulldogs were Ryan Smith (fifth) 200M Dash with 23.25; John Magee (fifth) Pole Vault with 11’6;” Tristan Watson, Kaelan Herbert, Zachary Markgraf and Isaac Bourg (fifth) 4X400M Relay with a time of 3:41.15 and Thomas Cardenas (sixth) 200M Dash with 23.5.
The top four places from the Area Championships will qualify for the UIL Region IV Track and Field Meet at Texas A&M Kingsville on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29.
Junior Varsity
The Junior Varsity boys finished in fourth place with 63 points.
Scoring points for the JV Bulldogs were Noah Adams (first) 800M Run with 2:17.24; John Smith, Dunn Morrow, Chase Havely and Christian Henk (third) 4X100M Relay with 46.64; John Smith, Dakota Utterback, Wiley D'Spain and Stratten Morris (third) 4X400M Relay with 3:50.59; Robert Marsden (third) Discus with 104' 2;" Wiley D'Spain (fourth) 400M Dash with 56.79; Dakota Utterback (fourth) 800M Run with 2:22.72; John Slaughter, Gunnar Brown, Chase Havely and Christian Henk (fourth) 4X200M Relay with 1:39.26; Robert Marsden (fourth) Shot Put with 36' 10.75;" Stratten Morris (sixth) 200M Dash with 24.93; John Smith (sixth) Discus with 98' 7;" and Zachary Brakebill (sixth) Pole Vault with 9' 6."
