Trying to bounce back after falling to the Fredericksburg Billies in their district opener, the Bulldogs took on Canyon Lake this past Friday hoping to pull out a win over the Hawks. Going into the game with two starters down due to injuries sustained during practice the day before, the eight man squad found themselves down 39-56 at final buzzer.
Bandera battled in the first quarter scoring 10 points and giving up 14 to the Hawks.
The Bulldogs would repeat their first quarter score in the second but would also allow the Hawks to score 16, bringing the halftime score to 30-20 in favor of Canyon Lake.
The ‘Dogs started the second half looking to close the gap, but the third quarter saw the Hawks extend on their lead taking it from a 10 point lead to an 11.
Fatigue found Bandera on the defensive side of the floor, allowing the Hawks to score 17 points in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs scored 11 points of their own, but this would not be enough to catch Canyon Lake.
The Bulldogs district record is now 0-2. Leading scorer for Bandera was Aaron Givens with 10. Other top scorers included Connor Chesshir, Landry Kinsel, and Josh Ripple with 7 points each.

Earlier in the night, Bandera's JV squad took on the Hawks, also looking for their first district win.
With a slow start, Bandera could only find the boards twice in the first quarter, scoring 4 points to the Hawks 8.
In the second quarter, Bandera pulled to within 5 points, keeping it close for the rest of the game.
“The third quarter proved to be one of the best quarters all year long for us, as we outscored Canyon and pulled within 3 at the start of the fourth quarter,” JV Coach Bryan Gams said.
A victory for the ‘Dogs wasn't meant to be however, as both teams traded shots in the final period. Canyon lake outscores Bandera 40-33.
Leading scorer for the game is Braeden Wheeler with 12 points.
Bandera took on the Boerne Greyhounds on Tuesday and will host the Hondo Owls this Friday night with tipoffs starting at 5:30 pm.
