By Sandy Jennings BCC Staff Writer

LadyBulldog basketball senior and four-year letterman Alex Bauml hit her 1,000 career point in the first quarter of play against Canyon Lake this past Friday, leading the LadyBulldogs to a big 50-39 win over the Hawks, ending the first round of district play in third place behind Fredericksburg and Boerne.
“It was an awesome night,” Head Girls Basketball Coach Casey Botos said. “Senior Kaitlyn Rodriguez led the National Anthem and it was beautiful to hear everyone in the gym singing; then Senior Alex Bauml hit her 1,000 Career Point in the first quarter making the score 13-8.”
Botos praised Bauml for her success on the court, an accumulation of four years of hard work.
“What an accomplishment made by a high school basketball player, Botos said. “Those career points are a combination from her very first Varsity game. I'm very fortunate to be her coach along with her previous coaches.”
The LadyBulldogs finished off the night with a team victory over the Hawks, clinching a third place spot after the first round of District Play.
“Our inside game came alive and we were having to adjust offenses according to their defenses,” Botos said. “Big key in our defense was Mckenzie Owens with 4 charges!”
Botos attributed teamwork and court savvy to the team’s progression towards a playoff berth.
“I thought the ladies adjusted well and its exciting to see how they are playing together,” Botos said. “Our guards looking inside at our post; the posts looking to kick it out to the guards--that is playing as a team which makes the victories even sweeter when you win as a team.”
Current District 28 4A standings after the first round of play are Fredericksburg (1) 4-0; Boerne (2) 3-1; Bandera (3) 2-2; Hondo (4) 1-3; Canyon Lake (5) 0-4.
The LadyDogs started their second round of district play Tuesday night against Boerne (results in next issue) and will travel to Hondo this Friday night to take on the Owls with a 5:30 pm tipoff for Freshmen and JV, 7 pm tipoff for Varsity.
