By Sandy Jennings BCC Staff Writer

LadyBulldog Powerlifting kicked off their season this past Thursday, when they traveled to San Antonio to compete at the Texas Strength Systems Meet at TSS gymnasium. Ivy Rodriguez earned a third place medal for her lift of 540 pounds.
“This was our first meet of the 2017 powerlifting season,” girls powerlifting coach Steve Golemon said. “We are extremely young and they are extremely excited about improving their strength, explosiveness and flexibility.”
Although, there are a total of 12 LadyBulldogs presently attending powerlifting workouts, only seven of the LadyBulldogs traveled to this Texas Strength Systems Meet.
Of the seven LadyBulldogs, six were participating in a powerlifting meet for the very first time.
“Each of the seven LadyBulldogs gave an excellent effort and competed well for their first meet,” Golemon said.
Three LadyBulldogs scored points. Rodriquez, a junior, was attending her first meet and came home with a third place medal by lifting a total of 540 pounds in her weight class. Freshman Caitlin Watson (fourth with 450 lbs.) and freshman Caitlin Thrasher (fifth with 390 lbs.) both competed in the same weight class and scored team points in that weight class as a result of their finishes.
Other weight totals worthy of mention were freshman Anna Freeman (370 lbs.) and freshman Alena Swan with 410 lbs.).
“Overall, the Lady-Bulldogs had an excellent start to the 2017 powerlifting season,” Golemon said. “Six of the seven LadyBulldogs participating were competing in their very first powerlifting meet.”
