LadyBulldogs split wins over Harper, LaVernia

The Bandera LadyBulldogs packed in two high-scoring games before the holiday break, defeating Harper 63-42 and falling to state-ranked LaVernia 55-66.
“We had a great Christmas break and ready to come back with a vengeance,” Head Girls Basketball Coach Casey Botos said.
Bandera took an early first quarter lead (20-9) on the Warriors and never looked back.
LadyBulldog stat leaders were Schmidt, K- 15 points, 4 assists, 3 defensive rebounds, 2 charges; Bauml, A - 13 points, 5 assists, 1 off, 4 def rebounds 6 steals; Graves, S - 3 points, 2 off/ 1 def rebounds; Antonino, M - 19 points, 3 assists, 4 off / 8 def rebounds, 6 steals; Morrow, D - 3 points, 3 assists, 1 off / 2 def rebounds, 2 steals; Henderson, A - 4 points, 5 off / 2 def rebounds, 2 steals; Owens, M - 4 points, 1 assist, 3 def rebounds, 2 steals; Shaw, A - 2 steals; Shaw, K - 2 points, 2 def rebounds.
The LadyBulldogs held the LaVernia Bears to a three point deficit (11-14) at the end of the first quarter, but the Bears outscored Bandera 24-14 in the second.
LaVernia toppled the boards again in the third quarter, outscoring the LadyBulldogs 19-8.
Bandera battled back in the fourth and the LadyBulldogs scored 19 points to the Bear’s 12, but it was not enough to gap the deficit leaving LaVernia on top at buzzer 66-55.

“We come back to one preseason game versus. Pearsall and then we open District play with Boerne at Boerne on January 6,” Botos said.
Game times this year are Freshman at 5:30 pm, JV at 5:30 pm and Varsity at 7:00pm. Another first, the Bulldogs and LadyBulldogs will be playing at opposite sites during district play.
“I've told the girls these next eight games will go by fast and they are the ones that count,” Botos said. “We have one of the toughest districts in the State, but we gladly accept the challenge and take it one game at a time. It’s anybody's ball game any given night. We will keep working hard. I’m very proud of our LadyBulldogs!”
