LadyBulldog volleyball open district play against Boerne

LadyBulldog Volleyball opens district play with a Homecoming game this Friday night against the Boerne Greyhounds, with the first toss-up at 5pm in Bulldog gymnasium.
The district rival Greyhounds are the only other district team picked in the top ten alongside Bandera in the preseason State poll. Both teams faced each other at the Regional level of State playoffs last season, with Boerne pulling out a win to continue to the Regional finals.
Bandera prepared for the district opener with two tough games this past week. After falling to LaVernia in 4 games on Tuesday, the LadyBulldogs beat Pleasanton in 3 games (25-22,25-16,25-22) on Friday.
Morgan Gross led the attack on the Eagles with 15 kills, 13 digs, 4 aces and a block; also adding to the stat-boards were Kaitlyn Paul with 25 digs and 4 aces; Rio Orion with 9 kills, 2 aces and a block; Peyton Mooney with 9 kills and 19 assists; Keleigh Schmidt with 23 assists and 2 aces; Lucy Rose with 22 digs; and Mattie Morrison with 2 big blocks.
Junior Varsity
The JV LadyDogs shared the same fate with a loss (15-25,16-25) to LaVernia and a win (26-24,25-17) over Pleasanton.
Leading on the boards for the JV LadyDogs were Abby Busby with 12 kills and 3 blocks; Brooke Krahn with 2 kills and 3 blocks; Jessica McClure with 5 kills and 4 aces; Morgan Oardee with 1 kill, 14 assists and 4 aces; Anna Guajardo with11 assists; Rebecca Huckabee iwith 1 assist and 1 block; and Olivia Milner with 3 aces.
Freshmen
The Freshmen LadyBulldogs suffered losses against LaVernia (9-25,12-25) and Pleasanton (11-25,18-25).
“This was a learning week,” Coach Stephanie Jones said. “We learned a lot about the importance of communication, team efforts and positive energy, especially when things get tough.”
Leading on the boards for the Freshmen were Emy Jauer with 3 kills, 7 assists and 3 aces; Xeauma Rodriguez with 4 kills; Jamie Whalen with 2 aces; Caitlyn Thrasher with 9 digs; Alena Swan with 6 digs; and Anna Freeman and Brianna Lloyd with 1 block each.
Bandera LadyBulldog Volleyball takes on the Boerne Greyhounds this Friday night starting at 5pm, in Bulldog Gymnasium for the District opener.
