LadyBulldogs defeat Owls, fall to Hounds

With 28 seconds left in the game, a Hondo player suffered a serious injury and was taken away in an ambulance. The LadyBulldogs gathered with the LadyOwls in center court to pray together for the injured player.

LadyBulldog Basketball split wins last week with 61-50 win over the Hondo Owls on Tuesday, and a 62-48 loss to the Boerne Greyhounds on Friday. LadyBulldogs ended the first round of District play in third place with a 3-2 record and an overall record of 17-10.
"I'm very proud of the girls' effort and their will to never quit," Head Girls Basketball Coach Casey Botos said. "We will have two more home games this second round and we need to take care of business at home."
Bandera hosted Fredericksburg Tuesday night, and will battle it out with Devine this Friday night at Bulldog gymnasium with a 5 pm tipoff.
"These ladies have come a long way and just keep getting better and better every game," Botos said. "All I ever ask is their very best and no doubt that they do it every game."
Leading on the boards for the LadyBulldogs against the Owls were Alex Bauml with 16, Kaitlyn Rodriguez with16, Keleigh Schmidt with 12, Katie Beauchamp with eight, Mckenzie Owens with five, and Carra Gillaspy with four points.
Top offensive rebounders were Beauchamp with six and Gillaspy with five. Defensive rebounds were Owens and Rodriguez with eight rebounds a piece.
The LadyBulldogs were 18 for 32 from the line with Alex Bauml shooting 14 of 18 from the line.
"Our girls handle Hondo's full court pressure very well and we were able to score points on the transition (fast breaks)," Botos said.
Against the Greyhounds, Rodriguez led the LadyBulldogs with 20 points, five assists, four offensive rebounds, two defensive rebounds, two steals; followed by Schmidt with eight points, four assists, two offensive rebounds, one steal; Bauml with seven points, two defensive rebounds, one steal; Larissa Williams with two points, two defensive rebounds, one steal; Gillaspy with three points, two offensive rebounds, one defensive rebound; Kaylee Hornung with one offensive rebound, one defensive rebound, one block; Vanessa Figueroa with four points, two defensive rebounds, one block; Owens with one offensive rebound, four defensive rebounds, two steals; and Beauchamp with four points, two assists, four offensive rebounds, four defensive rebounds, two blocks, one steal.
Current standings for District 29AAAA, after the first round, are Boerne 5-0, Devine 4-1, Bandera 3-2, Fredericksburg 2-3, Hondo 1-4 and Lytle 0-5.
The Junior Varsity LadyBulldogs celebrated a 39-32 win over Hondo, but were defeated by Boerne 28-17.Sydney Graves and Kendra Shaw led the JV LadyBulldogs with 13 points each for the week.
Bandera's Freshmen suffered two losses in last week's District play, falling to both Hondo and Boerne. The Fish were led by Presli Mooney, scoring 15 points for the week.
