Hawks power past Bulldogs 42-7

The Canyon Lake Hawks and their Slot-T rushing offense, led by former Bulldog Tanner Faris, erupted for 435 yards on the ground to power their way past the Bandera Bulldogs 42-7 in week two District 14-4A-1 football action played on Friday, Oct. 16 at Bulldog Nation Stadium.
The Hawks combined their explosive offensive attack with a formidable run defense that limited the Bulldogs to 94 total yards rushing to improve their district mark to 1-1 while the Bulldogs fell to 0-2 in district with three games remaining.
Canyon Lake quarterback Ben Fulton engineered the Hawk offensive machine and Faris spearheaded the Hawk rushing attack with 16 carries for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Hawk running-mate Austin Brennan carried nine times for 112 yards and two TDs to add to the powerful Canyon Lake running game while Hawk fullback Robert Woods tacked on 65 yards and a score against the Bulldogs.
Faris opened the Hawks scoring parade with a 19-yard run for a score at 6:41 of the first period before bolting up the middle for a 76-yard touchdown sprint with 3:51 remaining in the quarter. Hawks placekicker Mike Thorpe was good on both PAT attempts as Canyon Lake took an early 14-0 lead.
The Bulldogs answered with a scoring drive of their own capped off with a Utah Hicks 4-yard run for a Bandera touchdown with :40 left on the first quarter clock. Senior quarterback Hicks set up the Bandera score with a 37-yard run for a Bulldog first down at the Hawks three-yard line. Abram Mata booted the extra point and the Bulldogs closed the gap to 14-7.
From there, it was all Canyon Lake as the Hawks countered with a pair of second quarter scores to extend their lead.
In the second half, the Canyon Lake defense continued to thwart the Bandera offensive efforts while the Hawks' offense added a pair of scores on a Brennan 18-yard run in the third period and a Woods five-yard run in the fourth to round out their impressive 42-7 victory at Bandera.
Bulldog stats include Hicks completing eight of 19 passes for 105 yards while rushing for a team high 55 yards and a touchdown on eight attempts. Bulldog tailback Walker Starnes was limited to just 12 yards on 9 carries while Robby Woody (5-9), Trey Frerich (4-9) and Walker Hicks (1-9) rounded out the Bandera rushing game.
Hicks led Bandera receivers with two catches for 50 yards while Jeremiah Silone also had two receptions for 35 yards. Woody (1-8), Tryston Butler (1-7), Elijah MacNeil (1-12) and Wyatt Blair (1-1) each contributed to the Bulldog receiving game.
Next up for the Bulldogs are the 1-1 Taylor Ducks. The Bulldogs will make the 125 mile trip to Taylor this Friday, Oct. 23, with kickoff set for 7:30 pm.
