Powerlifting off to winning start

Bandera's boys and girls powerlifting teams celebrated success when they competed in the Southside Invitational Meet in San Antonio these past two Wednesdays.
On Jan. 15, the Lady Bulldogs placed third overall as a team and had seven athletes place in the top three places of their weight class. The Bulldogs placed third as a team and celebrated Andrew Bachman's first place win.
Sarah Butler took home gold for her weight class with a Malone Total of 603.25. Other LadyBulldogs placing individually were 2nd Calie Chesler (641.7), 2nd Faithann Gustamante (524.7), 3rd Laurynn Winters (473.43), 3rd Allie Denham (537.25), 3rd Kate Martin (619.69), and 3rd Bethany Martinez (557.13).
Andrew Bachman brought home the gold in his weight class scoring a Malone Total of 1305. Bulldogs receiving accolades were 2nd Calvin Starnes (1075), 2nd Kyle Wilson (1245), 5th Josh Ripple (950), and 6th Tristan Watson (840).
Bandera traveled back to Southside on Jan. 21, with the LadyBulldogs earning a team championship and the Bulldogs placing third overall as a team.
McKenzie Owens and Bethany Martinez both earned individual gold medals in their weight class. Other LadyBulldogs placing included 3rd Gustamante, 4th Winters, 2nd S. Butler, 2nd Chesler, 5th Denham, 6th Baileigh Toenes, 2nd Martin, 2nd Vanessa Muniz, and 5th Katelyn Cornwell.
Starnes was the big winner for the Bulldogs, earning a gold in his weight class. Also contributing to the team win were 2nd Josh Jauer, 3rd Jesse Zimmel, 3rd Watson, 4th Tryston Butler, and 6th Aidan Leal.
