LadyBulldogs fall to Billies in district opener

By Sandy Jennings BCC Contributor

All three of the LadyBulldogs' basketball teams suffered losses to the Fredericksburg Billies in their district season opener this past Friday. After coming off of a tournament championship in pre-district play, the 26-54 loss to the Billies did not deter the Varsity LadyBulldogs.
"We have worked hard and have come far as a team," senior guard Kate Martin said. "We just didn't come out strong in the first quarter of this game."
The Billies outscored Bandera 20-6 in the first quarter.
"We played well in the second and fourth quarters," Martin said. "Our defense was more aggressive and we moved the ball better as a team."
Bandera matched up evenly with the Billies in the second quarter (8-8) and the fourth quarter (7-7), but with a mismatch in the first quarter and another Billie dominated third quarter (19-5), the LadyBulldogs were not able to bring home a win.
"We know what we have to fix and we will be ready for the Pirates on Friday," Martin said. "We will come out ready to play and we will cut down on turnovers."
Bandera had 36 turnovers against Fredericksburg.
Kaitlyn Rodriguez led the LadyDogs with 10 points, followed by Katie Beauchamp with 6, Alex Bauml with 4, Kaylee Hornung and Jeneive Casarez with 2 each, Andrea Felice and Martin with 1 each.
The Junior Varsity LadyBulldogs fell to the Billies 14-24, with Candice Rollo leading on the boards with 8 points, followed by Carra Gillaspy with 3, and Deja Morrow with 3.
The Freshman also suffered a 21-41 loss to the Billes with Kendra Shaw leading the LadyDogs with 8 points, followed by Page Ansaldo with 6, Ashley Shaw with 3, Lisa Garcia and Bailey Riley with 2 each.
The LadyBulldogs took on Devine Tuesday, and will travel with the boys to Lytle on Friday, looking for a win against the Pirates.
