All-Pro Dallas Cowboy LB Dat Nguyen congratulates Bulldogs Corey Jennings and Landon Ventura for being selected for the SA Sports All-Star game this Saturday. Nguyen gave an inspirational speech recanting his journey to America and the NFL to the all-star players at a banquet this past Sunday.

All-Pro Dallas Cowboy LB Dat Nguyen spoke to a packed room of 2015 SA Sports All-Star players, in San Antonio this past Sunday evening. The event marked the kickoff of the US Army All-American Bowl and the SA Sports All-Star game, both to be played in the Alamodome this Saturday at 12 pm and 4:30 pm respectively.
Nguyen, an all-state player at 3A Rockport-Fullton High School and an All-American at Texas A&M University, spoke to the young men about his three keys to success - seize every opportunity given to you, always dream big, and remember to always give back to your community.
Nguyen told the boys his mother was six months pregnant with him when his parents and five siblings fled to America from war-stricken Vietnam. Nguyen said life was full of struggles and he relied on "visualization," working hard to make his dreams a reality, and seizing every opportunity along the way.
After his powerful speech, Nguyen spent some one-on-one time with Bandera seniors Landon Ventura and Corey Jennings, encouraging them to dream big and use the opportunities this game offers.
"It doesn't matter what size school you come from, it's the amount of work and effort you're willing to put into your dream," Nguyen said.
Nguyen joked around with the boys about sharing the field at Texas A&M with Bandera Defensive Line Coach Steve Young.
"He was a freshman my senior year and was our nose guard," Nguyen said. "And he was all smiles. Everyday - always smiling."
Nguyen, who resides in Boerne, wished the boys well and told them to keep in touch since they were "neighbors."
Both Ventura and Jennings are members of the All-Star West team and will play at the Alamodome this Saturday at 4:30 pm. Jennings, jersey number 51, will play offensive line, defensive line and tight end. Ventura, jersey number 30, will play running back and kick return.
Both seniors have not yet committed to a school and look forward to visiting with college coaches after the game.
The game will also be televised.
Tickets may be purchased at Ticketmaster, or complimentary tickets given for Bulldog fans may still be available through Athletic Director Coach David T. SIne. Send requests to dsine@banderaisd.net. More information concerning the game can be found at www.sanantoniosports.org.
