Bulldogs kick off season with scrimmage Friday

This Friday night the Bandera Bulldogs will kickoff their 2014 football season with an inner squad scrimmage starting at 7 pm. The "Blue and White Scrimmage," and annual season starter, originated last year with the arrival of Athletic Director Coach David T. Sine.
"It's a fun way to start off the season and it allows us to make necessary adjustments before our scrimmage against Carrizo," Sine said.
Bandera Varsity, JV and freshmen squads will take on the Carrizo Springs Wildcats the following Friday, August 15, with a 6 pm kickoff. Scrimmages are run by number of plays both offensively and defensively, and there is no official score recorded.
The Bulldogs will host their annual shower gel and towel drive at the Carrizo scrimmage to help keep all locker rooms well supplied. Baskets will be set up at the entry gate for Bulldog fans to drop off bottles of bath soap and bath towels before enjoying a night of Bulldog football.
On August 15, the Bulldogs will also host their annual fund drive for "Gridiron Heroes." Gridiron Heroes Spinal Cord Injury Foundation provides immediate as well as long term resources and support to individuals sustaining a catastrophic spinal cord injury through activities associated with high school football. A free will donation will be taken at the gate. Last year, the Bulldogs were able to raise over one thousand dollars for this 501(C) 3 non-profit organization.
The Athletic Booster Club will have a full concession stand for both scrimmages, as well as a spirit store full of Bulldog pride items, including the new FNF magazines.
"Get your popcorn ready," Sine said. "It's going to be a great year!"
