Medina LadyBobcat Lauren Ortiz earned a spot on the Texas Girls' Coaches Association All-State Track Team Conference 1A for her outstanding record in track and field this year.
Medina High School incoming senior Lauren Ortiz was selected to the Texas Girls' Coaches Association All-State Track Team Conference 1A for 2014.
Ortiz, the daughter of Eddie and Laura Ortiz of Medina, made her second appearance at the UIL State Track and Field Meet in May, competing in both the 100M and 200M dash. Ortiz has also been a member of the LadyBobcat Varsity volleyball and basketball teams for the past three years.
"Lauren is the type of athlete any coach would love to have on their team," head track coach Lovey Sockol said. "She continues to train in track, with hopes of improving her strengths, by participating on her AAU track team during the summer."
Ortiz, a member of the San Antonio Roadrunners club track team, qualified for the AAU Regional meet in June, placing 10th in the 100M dash with a 12.8, and 13th in the 200M dash.
Ortiz, an active member of FCCLA, BPA, Student Council and the National Honor Society, looks forward to a successful senior year at Medina High School.
"The TGCA s the only statewide organization in Texas composed of coaches of girls' athletics, designed for coaches of girls' athletics, and governed by coaches of girls' athletics," executive director Sam Tipton said.
The association selected the top 15 female athletes in track and field from each division (1A-5A).
