Bulldog track one step closer to State

Several Bandera track stars are one step closer to competing at State, after qualifying for Regionals at the Districts 27-28AAA Area Meet this past week. Monday's field events and 3200M run were held at LaVernia, and the rest of the running events, pole vault, shot put and discus were held at Canyon Lake on Wednesday. Bulldogs that placed in the top four in each event will head to Kingsville today to compete at the U.I.L. Region IV Track and Field Meet, April 25-26, at Texas A&M at Kingsville. Athletes that place first or second at this meet will continue on to the U.I.L. State Track and Field Meet at the University of Texas at Austin, on May 9-10.
Junior Corey Jennings earned an Area Championship in both the Shot Put and Discus events, throwing a distance of 146' 1" in Discus, and 49' 9 1/2" in Shot Put.
Junior Noah Nelson earned an Area Championship in the 300M Hurdles with a time of 40.40. Nelson also qualified for Regionals in the 110M Hurdles, placing third with a time of 15.74.
Jennings and Nelson will be joined by junior Wes Joseph who qualified for Regionals in the 800M Run, placing third with a time of 2:06.08.
LadyBulldogs qualifying for the Regional Meet, include sophomore Mercy Yermo who placed third in both the 3200M Run with a time of 12:07.02, and the 800M Run with a time of 2:26.79.
Junior Sarah Butler will join Yermo at Regionals in the 800M Run, placing fourth with a time of 2:29.74.
The 400M Relay team consisting of freshman Kaitlyn Rodriquez, senior Sarah Walker, sophomore Jenessa Heinen, and freshman Alex Bauml qualified for Regionals, placing
third with a time of 51.67.
Sophomore Allie Denham matched her sister's Bandera High School record in Pole Vault by clearing 10'-6", placing third and qualifying for Regionals.
Also competing and placing at the Area meet were: 3200M Run: Karla Presa 5th with a time of 12:32.03; Jewel Weed 7th with a time of 12:48.21; Jarred Elizondo 6th with a time of 10:40.04; Boys 400M Relay: Jonathan Stoufflet, Landon Ventura, Joe Rodriguez, Alex Willoughby - 7th with a time of 45.69; 100M Dash: Alex Willoughby 5th with a time of 11.30; Boys 800M Relay: Jonathan Stoufflet, Landon Ventura, Alex Willoughby, Kyle Bauml - 8th with a time of 1:35.68; 200M Dash: Sarah Walker 5th with a time of 27.85; 1600M Run: Jewel Weed 6th with a time of 5:43.33; Jarred Elizondo 5th with a time of 4:43.19; Long Jump: Jonathan Stoufflet 8th with a distance of 19' 10.75".
The Bandera Boys' team placed 7th out of 11 teams with 47 points, and the LadyBulldogs placed 7th out of 11 teams with 38.5 points.
