After a long and extremely successful tennis season, the Bulldog squad headed to Fredericksburg two weeks ago for the District Tournament. Although nobody was able to move on to regionals, the team did have perform well.
"Everyone did their best," head coach Ginger Postert said. "Unfortunately we didn't have anyone advance on to regionals. I think that with the experience we have returning next year, we definitely have a good shot to be successful in the new district."
In the varsity boys singles division, Maverick Hicks and Jonathan Stockdale both advanced to the 2nd round before being eliminated. Despite not moving on, Stockdale is only a junior and will have another shot next season.
The varsity girls singles division was much of the same story, as seniors Abbey Jones and Marissa Godbey picked up wins in round one before battling hard and dropping their round two matchups.
In the varsity boys doubles division, both teams of Nathan Accord and Wyatt Evans, and Brendan Keane and Luke DeGoes moved on to the second round before being knocked out. The mixed doubles team of Frank Lopez and Aubrie Edins were also eliminated in round two.
The junior varsity group saw a large deal of success, as sophomore Bobby Nolen won the entire tournament in the boy's singles division. Jacob Williams made it to the second round, as did the Vanessa Mendoza in the girl's singles bracket.
The boy's doubles team of Averie Mansfield and Nick Andreas fought hard through 3 full sets before being knocked out in the first round. In the girl's doubles division, Team International of Dina Pannekeet and Bianca Pellegrini picked up fourth place.
"This was the most successful overall season of Bulldog tennis in six years," Postert said. "Great job to the seven seniors I have graduating. They've been a tremendous asset to the Bulldog Nation tennis program for the last four years."
