The Bandera Bulldogs finished off the 2014 regular season on a four game winning streak, finishing off the season with a convincing win over the Canyon Lake Hawks last Wednesday night. The Bulldogs started off slow against the Hawks, but rallied together in the second quarter to pull away and build some momentum entering into the playoffs.
"It felt great to end the regular season on a winning streak," junior Corey Jennings said. "It's definitely a big momentum builder taking us into playoffs."
The Bulldogs 21st victory this season started off looking like a close matchup, as the Hawks were able to hang in the game early in the first quarter. However, the Bulldogs turned up the heat building a 33-18 lead at halftime.
The second half saw much of the same dominance in the scoring category and the increased intensity allowed the Bulldogs to pull away and the final score stood at 67-48, giving Bandera the seventh district victory of the season.
The highlight of the night for fans on both sides of the court came yet again from senior Milam Boyle. Boyle backed up his Sports Center performance from a few games ago against the Wimberley Texans by scoring on a strong drive to the basket, and adding a three pointer as time expired.
The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Neff with 22 points, while Nelson and Jennings each had 8 points and played tough post defense. Senior Jonathan Raitz added seven points, and Mansfield chipped in 6. Other scorers for the Dogs included Milam Boyle with 5, Allen Clark with 4, Marshall Beightol and Ish Macneil with 3 each, and Brady Keane with 1.
