JV LadyDogs back on track with win in Navarro

The Lady Bulldogs junior varsity basketball team got back on track with a big win over Navarro last Friday night, defeating the Panthers by a score of 56-37. The ladies overcame foul trouble throughout the game to hold on for the win, and were successful in executing what has now become a trademark full court press.
"Getting the win against Navarro felt great," junior guard Laurynn Winters said. "We came together as a team to grab a win. We ran our offense and controlled our turnovers which was the key to the win."
The ladies jumped on Navarro early and never let the Panthers get back into the game. Strong defense from sophomore Marleigh Thompson was key to the execution of the Lady Bulldogs full court press that worked so well and led to easy transition layups.
"Running our full court press as well as we did put a lot of pressure on Navarro and helped us get easy steals to build the lead," junior Mary Hevenor said.
As Winters mentioned, the Lady Bulldogs offense flourished with an emphasis on ball control, and had more chances to score because of the cut down on turnovers. Sophomore Andrea Felice led the way in the scoring department for the high powered offense, scoring an impressive 20 points in the win, while freshman Keleigh Schmidt and sophomore Larissa Williams followed with six points each.
"Our past few games have shown us that turnovers are what have killed us," Felice said. "Once we fixed those mistakes, our offense was 10 times better and we were able to work our plays much more efficiently."
The ladies finished up their season at home against the Fredericksburg Billies on Tuesday night, with coverage of the game and a special parent night tribute, and a wrap up of the season to follow next week.
