8th Grade Bulldogs place in Hondo

The Bandera Bulldogs 8th Grade team got 3rd Place in the Hondo tournament this past weekend. Friday night they defeated Natalia 44-21, moving them into a match-up against Crystal City in the semifinal game.
The Bulldogs came up short 39-32 which set up the consolation game against Medina Valley.
In the battle for third place, the Bulldogs played excellent defense holding the Panthers to only 9 points through three quarters. Bandera went on a run to start the 2nd quarter with a 7-0 run and after taking the lead 9-6 at the half they never looked back, beating Medina Valley 26-21.
The 8th Grade Boys were presented with the 3rd place plaque.
"We look to build on the momentum coming out of the tournament and heading into the second half of the season," Coach Bryce Hogue said. "The players that deserve all the credit for their hard work are Wyatt Blair, Isaac Bourg, Alex Cardenas, Brandon Chamberlain, Tanner Faris Andrew Garza, Chase Havely, Alex Jannell, Josh Ripple, Ben Shackelford."
7th Grade Team
The 7th Grade A Team dropped two games on Saturday in the Hondo Tournament. In the first game, the Bulldogs fell to an aggressive Crystal City team, 27-15.
The Bulldogs found themselves down early in the first half, 18-5. With Crystal City's aggressive defense, Bandera found it difficult to score but managed to get points from Braeden Wheeler and Jerry Alcorta with two points each and Walker Sine with one.
In the second half, with defense and rebounding from Mason Bankston, Luke Tschirhart, and Austin Bess, the Bulldogs were able to slow down Crystal City on offense.
The Bulldog offense was able to match Crystal City's offensive output by scoring ten points in the half. Wheeler and Alcorta led the scoring in the half with four points each and Sine with two.
In the game against Natalia, the Bulldogs got off to a quick start with defensive efforts from Zane Neff, Austin Bess, Cody Quesnot, and Luke Tschirhart.
In the first half, the Bulldogs found themselves up 14-9.
Leading the scoring in the half were Jerry Alcorta and Walker Sine with four points each and Travis Adams, Wade Brosz, and Jason Mayhew with two points each. The second half the Bulldogs continued to play good defense, but could only manage to score six points, falling to Natalia, 26-20.
