BHS Varsity Basktball place second in Devine tournament

After coming off of a tough tournament in Hondo, with one-point losses that toppled a 4-0 record to 5-5, the Bulldogs were hungry for a win and Pleasanton was their first prey Thursday morning, with a victory over the Eagles 64-49.
Bandera faced Devine in their second game of the day, in what turned out to be the championship game of the tournament. The 'Dogs took an early lead ending the first quarter 16-12, and leading the Warhorses 45-41 at the end of the third quarter. Devine's defense held the 'Dogs' offense to eleven points, while the Warhorses scored 23 in the final quarter, ending with a Bulldog loss 56-64.
Bandera went on to beat Jourdanton 62-32, on Friday, and Blanco 62-29 on Saturday morning. Three wins earned the Dogs' a second place trophy behind the Warhorses.
"We're making better decisions and shooting the ball well," Head Basketball Coach Bob Shearhart said. " Our outside shot is looking good and we are out-rebounding offensively which allows more shots. Our hustle is awesome and we are diving and coming up with the ball. We just need to work on not telegraphing our passes and being able to run our set offense."
In Bandera's first win against the Eagles, Ty Neff led the 'Dogs with 18 points, followed by Averie Mansfield 13, Corey Jennings 10, Noah Nelson 9, Marshall Beightol 6, Jonathan Raitz 5, and Caleb Beauchamp 3.
On the defensive side of the ball, Noah Nelson and Corey Jennings led with 11 and 9 rebounds repectively. Also contributing to rebounds were Beachamp 8, Neff 7, and Raitz 5. Raitz led in steals with 3, followed by Jennings with 2.
In the battle against Devine, Neff led the 'Dogs with 25 points, followed by Mansfield 11, Raitz 6, Jennings 4, Beightol 4, Nelson 4, and Beauchamp 2.
Defensively, Averie Mansfield had 8 rebounds and one steal, Corey Jennings had 7 rebounds and 1 steal, Jonathan Raitz had 7 rebounds and 2 steals, and Ty Neff had 6 rebounds nad 1 steal.
Bandera's win over Jourdanton was shared across the board with many Bulldogs scoring, including Nelson 14, Neff 13, Mansfield 10, Beightol 9, Jennings 6, Reed Blake 5, Raitz 3, and Beauchamp 2. Nelson led the 'Dogs in rebounds with 11, followed by Raitz with 5.
Blanco's game also alllowed many 'Dogs on the board led by Neff with 18, Beauchamp 10, Nelson 10, Mansfield 9, Jennings 6, Blake 4, Beightol 3, and Raitz 2.
