The Bandera Freshmen captured a second place trophy this past weekend at the annual Freshmen/JV Bandera basketball tournament, ending with a 3-1 record in tourney play.
"The boys put on a good showing and gathered some great experience that will surely help them going into the rest of this season," Freshman Basketball Coach Bobby LaLanne said.
The 'Dogs picked up their first win with a 29-15 victory over the Medina Bobcats. Bryce Boyd and Connor Chessir led the way with 7 and 5 points respectively.
In their second game, Bandera came out strong, securing a lead and beating the Llano Yellowjackets 28-16.
"We had great defensive play and created a big offensive presence from Walker Hicks and Travis Leggett," LaLanne said.
Bandera picked up an unscheduled game against Canyon Lake and with success on both sides of the ball, secured their third victory.
Trevor Leggett (9 points) and Jack Junker (7 points) helped make sure the 'Dogs came out on top at the buzzer of this back and forth game.
The Bulldogs' only loss came in the championship game against the Medina
Valley Panthers, the only team that has defeated them this year.
"The boys fought hard in this game, but lacked too much on the defensive end and couldn't get enough baskets to fall to secure a win," LaLanne said.
