Lady Bulldogs can't overcome poor night shooting in loss to Panthers

By Brady Keane BCC Contributor

The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Medina Valley Panthers last Monday night, looking to get back on track after a tough loss to Somerset the previous week. Despite playing good defense for the majority of the game, the Lady Bulldogs could not overcome a poor night shooting and fell to the Panthers by a score of 53-36.
"We really need to work on taking better shots," freshman Alex Bauml said. "Sometimes we're forcing shots or shooting when we aren't open."
The game started off in favor of Bandera, as Bauml hit a three pointer on the opening possession to give the Bulldogs the momentum early. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 lead before the posts from Medina Valley began to dominate inside. Medina Valley pulled ahead and coasted into halftime ahead 25-15. The second half followed much of the same pattern, as the Bulldogs started off strong, but the Panthers were just too big inside and pulled away late in the game.
The Lady Bulldogs struggled throughout the game shooting, and hit only 14 percent of their shots from inside the three point line. The lone bright spot from a shooting perspective for the Lady Bulldogs came from behind the three point line, as Bandera was able to knock down 40 percent of the three pointers shot against the Panthers.
Defensively, the Lady Bulldogs really played well against the inside-out attack the Panthers brought into Bandera. The defense worked hard and executed several different defensive schemes against Medina Valley, but overall the poor night shooting really made it difficult for the Lady Bulldogs to stick with the Panthers.
Bandera was led in the game by senior Cassie Henk who recorded 10 points and six rebounds. Senior Shae Hopf added 8 points, sophomore Kaylee Hornung had junior Kate Martin each had 4, while sophomore Katie Beauchamp picked up seven rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs will look to bounce back from the loss against the Panthers in the Hondo tournament beginning today and finishing up this Saturday.
Looking ahead at the schedule for Bandera, next week will be a busy week as the Lady Bulldogs travel to Comfort on Tuesday, Dec. 10 before heading to the Canyon Lake Tournament from Thursday to Saturday Dec. 12-14.
District play will start Jan. 3 against the Wimberley Texans.
