Varsity earns 6th straight district championship title
The Lady Bulldog Cross Country Program won all four divisions of the District 27-AAA High School and Middle School Cross Country Meet held in Bandera last week. Had points been kept in the non-scoring Senior Division, the Lady Bulldogs would have won that division, also.
The varsity team won their sixth straight district title and will advance to the Region IV meet for the eighth straight year. The JV finished with a perfect score of 15, winning their seventh district title in the last eight years.
Of the 28 high school Lady Bulldogs who ran in the meet, 21 had their best time of the year, while two others equaled their best time.
All seven varsity runners won a medal, with each posting their best time ever.
Finishing in the top 10 and qualifying to the UIL Region IV Cross Country Meet as individuals were junior Karla Presa (3rd at 12:06), sophomore Mercy Yermo (4th at 12:18), freshman Jewell Weed (8th at 12:46), and freshman Taelen Butler (9th at 12:47). Just missing qualifying as individuals, but winning medals were freshman Kaitlyn Rodriquez (11th at 12:52), sophomore Caitlin Lenihan (12th at 12:53), and junior Sarah Butler (14th at 12:56).
All of the junior varsity medal winners, except one, improved their times.
Those winning medals were sophomore Emily Montague (1st), junior Kate Martin (2nd), freshman Monica Mata (3rd), junior Laurynn Winters (4th), sophomore Allie Denham (5th), sophomore Jenessa Heinen (8th), and junior Kim Engels (14th). The other members of the Lady Bulldog junior varsity team in order of finish were sophomore Jessie McLeod, sophomore Paige Barrington, junior Julie Hatch, freshman Emily Dibrell, sophomore Larissa Williams, freshman Hannah Robinson, sophomore Bethany Martinez, junior Destiny Jannell, freshman McKenzie Owens, freshman Myha Knowles, sophomore Cheyanne Burns, junior Jordan Fazio, and junior Jackie Macias.
Non-scoring seniors who won medals were Lenise McHazlett (1st), Lexie Dusek
(4th), Taylor Schultz (5th), Josie Burns (6th), and Alex Joyer (7th).
"Congratulations to all the Lady Bulldogs on an awesome effort at the District 27-AAA Cross Country Meet. Everyone is encouraged to attend the UIL Region IV Cross Country Meet at the National Shooting Range in San Antonio on Saturday, Nov. 2," said Coach Steve Goleman.
The Lady Bulldogs appreciate the support of the Bulldog Nation as they strive to capture a place on the awards stand at regional's and a third team trip to the state meet in the last four years.
