After almost two months of preparation, the Bandera 7-on-7 team traveled to Leander to take part in the Texas State 7 on 7 Adidas Championships on July 11-12. Playing in a pool composed of Boyd, Lorena, and Mid Christian, Bandera finished 1-2 in pool play to take third place in Pool G. In the consolation bracket on day two, the Bulldogs defeated Anna before being knocked out by Fairfield.
In Pool G, Bandera secured third place after going 1-2. Opening up the tournament with a 39-20 victory over Boyd, Bandera was able to get the offense going behind the arm of junior quarterback Joe Rodriquez. Following the victory, Bandera took on Lorena and fell by a score of 35-12. In the final game of pool play, the high powered Mid Christian offense took out Bandera by a score of 36-18. Pool G finished with Mid Christian in first, Lorena second, Bandera third, and Boyd fourth.
On the second day of the tournament, Bandera was in the Consolation bracket. The typical high powered offense of Bandera was on display against Anna in the first game of the day, as seniors Jonathan Stoufflet, Ty Pannell, Ish MacNeil, and junior Noah Nelson led Bandera to a 46-22 victory.
In round two, Fairfield was able to slow down the dynamic Bandera receivers and came out on top with a 28-12 victory to knock Bandera out of the tournament.
In the Division II bracket that Bandera participated in, Somerset was the only area team to advance past the first round of the Championship Bracket. Somerset ended up finishing fourth, while Carthage took home the first place trophy.
Bandera will continue to prepare for the upcoming football season in the weight room, with two-a-days beginning on August 5. The Bulldogs will begin the season with a scrimmage against San Antonio Christian on August 17.
