Bulldogs split with Llano in baseball action

Submitted by John Milner

On Wednesday, July 3, Bandera High School's summer baseball team traveled to Llano for a doubleheader.

In the first game, it stayed close early until Bandera delivered the knockout punch in the last inning for a 9-2 victory. Colton Klinksiek started on the mound for Bandera and picked up the win for Bandera with three solid innings of work. JT Milner closed out the win with two commanding innings to finish the time limit shortened game.

Supporting the outstanding mound work, the Bulldog offense pounded out 15 hits to keep the pressure on the Llano defense. Leading the onslaught with two hits each were Calvin Bankston, Milner, Carson Wilke and Colton Gisler. Ish MacNeil, Bobby Ketterer, Justin Galley, Klinksiek, Jacob Kimbrell, Elijah MacNeil and Jack Junker all contributed hits as well.

Defensively, Nicholas Salas turned in a great performance at first base by making some nice pickups. Austin Wilson also did a good job at second base.

In the second game, Ketterer got the start and was lights out on the mound for his three innings. Ketterer would strike out seven batters in his stint to stay even with Llano's hurler who was also tough to handle.

The game was tied 1-1 after three innings. In the fourth, a couple defensive lapses by Bandera led to four runs for Llano to open the game up. Although the Bulldogs had a couple opportunities to score, they could not take advantage of their chances and would go on to lose 6-2.

Gisler finished up on the mound for Bandera to continue the summer trend of solid pitching. On offense, Kimbrell had a pair of singles with Bankston, Galley, Klinksiek and Wilke contributing one hit each.

The split leaves Bandera with a 5-3 record thus far. The Bulldogs will return home for a doubleheader against Ingram on July 11 in their next contest.
