On Saturday, July 15, the Bandera varsity 7-on-7 squad coached by Bo Mansfield, Anthony Rodriquez, Clay Morrow, and Riley Brown, traveled to Sonora to take part in a State Qualifying Tournament. Going 1-2 on the day, the team failed to qualify for the State Tournament. However, Bandera did show signs of improvement, and the team has one more chance to qualify in the final State Qualifier this weekend.
The varsity team, composed of incoming sophomores Jeremiah Silone, Elijah MacNeil, and Ruben Vargas, juniors Joe Rodriquez, Landon Ventura, Brady Keane, Noah Nelson, Nick Andreas, Wes Joseph, Averie Mansfield, seniors Ishmael MacNeil, Jonathan Stoufflet, Dillon Asher, Brennan Aguirre, Marshall Beightol, and Devon Barnes, defeated Rocksprings in the first game by a score of 59-6.
The defense of Bandera was able to score multiple touchdowns off of interception returns, and also held the Angoras to only six points.
However in the second game, the fast paced offense of Sonora defeated Bandera 42-18, as the Bulldogs struggled to get anything going on offense. Bandera finished up the day with a heart breaking eight point loss to Ozona, as a last minute drive was stopped just short of the end zone as time expired.
The Bandera varsity and junior varsity teams traveled to Boerne on Tuesday, June 18, to take part in the weekly Hill Country League games. Both teams will travel to Hondo today, June 20, for another tune up before the final State Qualifying Tournament this Saturday at San Antonio Christian.
