Locals run in Beach to Bay Relay Marathon

Six Bandera runners competed in the 38th Annual Beach To Bay Relay Marathon in Corpus Christi on Saturday, May 18 where they finished second in their division. The six participants were Emily Montague, Ben Lopez, Mercy Yermo, Jarred Elizondo, Caity Lenihan and Seva Nix. All six are freshmen at Bandera High School, where they compete in cross country and track as well as other sports.
This is the second year the group have entered the Beach to Bay Relay Marathon. The group, who dubbed themselves The Bandera Beasts, finished first in the middle school category last year and moved up to the adult mixed category for the 2013 race.
Mixed teams consist of three men and three women, each running one leg of the race. The 26.2-mile course is divided into six legs ranging from 3.41 miles to 4.69 miles. The Beasts finished second in their division (3 & 3 Mixed) with an overall official time of 2 hours, 57 minutes and 44.09 seconds. They placed 32nd out of all 2,569 teams competing this year.
Runner Seva Nix said, "It's a great race to run. We are already planning for next year."
