Last Friday April 26, the Lady Bulldogs softball team headed to Boerne Champion High School to take on the Somerset Bulldogs in the first round of the playoffs. In the best two out of three series, the Lady Bulldogs won the first two games 9-4 and 10-6 to capture the Bi-District title.

Freshman pitcher Krystian Osbourn led the Lady Bulldogs on the mound, pitching all seven innings in game one. On Friday night in the opening game of the series, Osbourn struck out seven Somerset Bulldogs in seven innings of work, and gave up only two runs through the final five innings of the game.

The Lady Bulldogs were also hot at the plate in game one, as seven different Lady Bulldogs got hits in the game.

Freshman Cheyenne Burns led the team with three hits and one RBI, while senior Ellen Hevenor added two hits, including a triple, and two RBI's for the Lady Bulldogs. Osbourn excelled at the plate as well with two hits and two RBIs. Sophomore Michaela Pimpinella, added a hit and an RBI, junior Macie Malone had a hit, sophomore Lindsey Martinez had a hit and an RBI, and freshman Katelynn Cornwell also added a hit and an RBI for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the series clinching game on Saturday, it took a late inning rally for the Lady Bulldogs to grab the victory. Down 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Bulldogs piled on five runs to pull ahead and move on in the playoffs.

Martinez started the rally with a single off of a nicely placed bunt. Senior captain Madelynn Kinsel followed with a bunt single of her own, and Malone added another bunt single to load the bases with no outs in the inning. With the bases loaded, Pimpinella hit a rocket to center field that scored two runs and gave the Lady Bulldogs the lead. Hevenor followed with an RBI hit of her own, and the Lady Bulldogs never looked back on their way to a 10-5 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs will now face off against the La Grange Leopards in the Region IV Area Championship on Friday, May 3, at 7 pm. The game will be held at Canyon Lake High School.
