The Bandera Bulldogs escaped a furious fourth quarter rally by the Canyon Lake Hawks and settled down to take a 58-50 victory in overtime in District 27-3A basketball action played on Friday, Jan. 25 at Canyon Lake. The victory by the Bulldogs improved their district mark to 2-3 going into the second half of the district schedule.
At Canyon Lake, the Hawks tallied 21 points in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime but the Bulldogs put up 10 points to the Hawks 2 in the extra period to earn 58-50 victory. Nelson led the Bandera scoring effort at Canyon Lake with 15 points while Shackleford added 12, Neff 10, and Miller 9 for the visiting Bulldogs. McGuire tacked on 6 points while Keller and Marier hit for 3 each to round out the Bandera scoring at Canyon Lake.
Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs dropped a 70-58 decision at Wimberley when they fell behind early and were unable to catch up on the Texans home court. Aaron Shackleford led Bandera scorers with 15 points while Ty Neff added 14.
Bulldog Head Coach Brett Morris commented, "At Wimberley, we did not play well on offense or defense. Wimberley had too many second chance points.
"We had a 15 point lead at the half at Canyon Lake but they made 4 three-pointers in the fourth to tie it up. We made some key free throws in overtime and it was a big win for us," Morris said.
On Tuesday, Feb. 5, the Bulldogs host the Fredericksburg Battlin' Billies at the BHS gym at 7 pm.
