Lady Bulldogs dominate at Tivy Soccer event

The Bandera Lady Bulldogs put on a dominating performance by shutting out four straight opponents to finish in first place at the Kerrville Tivy Soccer Tournament played Jan. 25 and 26.
The Lady Bulldogs began the tournament on Friday with a 3-0 shutout over the host team Tivy and a 6-0 whitewash of Laredo Nixon. On Saturday, the Lady Dogs continued their winning ways with 4-0 victory over Medina Valley coupled with a 6-0 win over Uvalde to earn the championship of the Tivy Tournament.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Smithson Valley 2-0 for their first victory over the 5A school in three years. Montana Hicks and McKenna Mangold provided the goals for the Lady Dogs against Smithson Valley while Eve Kuusisto added an assist to the Bandera winning effort.
Against Tivy at Kerrville, the Lady Dogs won 3-0 on goals by Hicks, Kuusisto and Lyric Parker. In the 6-0 win over Laredo Nixon, the Lady Bulldogs scoring was spread out as Kuusisto, Hicks, Mangold, Leslie Groomer, Alexis Clements and Annie Fritz all scored goals for the Bandera girls. In Saturday's 4-0 win over Medina Valley, the Lady Dogs' Groomer, Kuusisto, Hicks and Mangold again provided the firepower with a goal each in the victory. In the tournament final against Uvalde, the Lady Dogs were powered by Hicks' 3-goal performance while Mangold, Jordan Fazio and Analisa Gonzalez added a goal apiece for the Champion Lady Bulldogs. Brittney Palacios handled the goalkeeping chores for the Lady Bulldogs throughout the tournament.

While the Lady Bulldogs played a total of five games last week, the Bulldogs split a pair of matches at the East Central Soccer Tournament by defeating the Seguin Matadors 2-0 following a closely played 1-0 loss to the host 5A team, East Central. Fabian Muniz and Maverick Hicks each scored goals for the Bulldogs against Seguin. The Bulldogs begin district play on Saturday against San Antonio Brennan. Bulldog Coach Clifton Tierney said, "Our team is struggling through some injuries but we should be ready for District Saturday when we face North Side Brennan."
