The Bandera High School Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs soccer teams are off and running with high hopes for a great new season as both teams have already shown great promise during their early season matches.
The Lady Bulldogs, coached by Raul Noyola, are currently 6-1-1 and picked up a pair of shutout victories recently at the Marble Falls Winter Classic Soccer Tournament played on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11 and 12. On Friday, the Bandera girls defeated Soledo 4-0 and Fredericksburg 3-0. A day later, the Lady Dogs tied Marble Falls 1-1 but advanced to the Championship Game against Hays. Hays won 1-0 in double overtime. McKenna Mangold and Alexis Clements were selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Other victories for the Lady Bulldogs include shutout wins over Eagle Pass 6-0 and El Paso Irvin 5-0. The Lady Dogs also took the Championship Trophy in the Battle of the Brush Country Tournament at Pleasanton. At Pleasanton, the Lady Bulldogs defeated El Paso Irvin 5-0 in the first round before taking a 2-1 decision from El Paso Burges in round two to advance to the Championship Game against Leander. The Lady Dogs defeated Leander 5-3 to earn the Championship Trophy at Pleasanton.
The Bulldogs, coached by Clifton Tierney, took a 4-1 decision from Kerrville on Tuesday, Jan. 15 with goals scored by David Moreno and Greg Macias. Chris Adamson, Kyler Powell and Matthew King contributed assists to the Bulldog victory at Kerrville. The Bandera boys began their season against 4A State Champion Alamo Heights and also took on New Braunfels Canyon in an early season match. Even though the Bulldogs lost to both teams, AH 3-1 and NB Canyon 2-0, the experience proved to be a confidence builder and indicated that the Bulldogs can play with anybody. Captains for this years Bulldog soccer team are Maverick Hicks and Van Heye.
