Bulldogs JV fall in thrilling district opener

By Brady Keane BCC Contributor

Coming into last Friday's game, the Bulldog's JV squad was 15-0 on the season and had hardly faced a team capable of a true challenge. However, the Boerne Greyhounds proved worthy as they squeezed by Bandera in a 36-35 thriller of a game.
In the first quarter, Boerne controlled the boards and kept the Bandera big men from getting any extra shots up. Both teams played tight defense from the opening tip, with the score 10-7 ending the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Boerne maintained their lead with sharp shooting from the outside while the Bulldogs continued to struggle against the 2-3 zone of the Greyhounds. Boerne maintained a tight lead going into halftime.
The Bulldogs offense came alive in the second half, as they were able to close the gap. Bandera was able to isolate CJ Shade, Averie Mansfield, and Corey Jennings inside, and the trio brought the Bulldogs back into the game. Point guard Jonathan Raitz hit a key three-pointer late in the fourth quarter to bring the Bulldogs within two, but Boerne was able to pull ahead and led by four with less than 10 seconds left. Corey Jennings had a three-point play with less than a second left, but the Bulldogs ultimately fell short 36-35.
