Lady Dogs come up short at Canyon Lake, Boerne

The Canyon Lake Lady Hawks broke open a tightly played contest with a fourth quarter rally to escape with a 34-29 victory over the visiting Bandera Lady Bulldogs in District 27 3-A basketball action played on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Canyon Lake.
Later in the week, the Boerne Lady Greyhounds visited Bandera and raced out to a fast start on their way to a 52-37 victory over the home team.
At Canyon Lake, the two teams kept it close for more than three quarters of play as the Lady Bulldogs took a 13-11 lead after the first period of play and stayed on top 19-17 at halftime. Both teams played it tight in the third period and the Lady Dogs maintained their slim margin over the Lady Hawks by taking a 26-24 lead into the final period of play.
The fourth quarter went to the home team as the Lady Hawks limited the Lady Dogs to 3 points in the period while putting up 10 points of their own to secure a 34-29 victory on their home court. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Briana Mayhew who totaled 9 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals while Shae Hopf added 8 points and 4 steals to the Lady Dogs effort against the Lady Hawks.
On Friday, Jan. 11, the Lady Dogs returned home to host the Boerne Lady Greyhounds in another District 27-3A matchup. The Greyhounds started quickly and took the early lead on their way to a 52-37 victory over the home team Lady Bulldogs. Nina Russell and Nicky Schoelles led the Bandera scoring effort with 12 and 8 points respectively.
