Black leads Bobcats past Punchers 73-65

The Medina Bobcats, led by Mitchell Blacks' 39-point performance, outslugged the home team Mason Punchers 73-65 in the District 27-A-1 basketball opener Friday, Jan. 11 at Mason. Black, one of the San Antonio areas leading scorers, hit on 9 of 18 shots from the field, 1 of 4 from three-point range and 18 of 24 from the free throw line for his 39 point total while adding 7 assists and 3 steals to the Medina winning effort at Mason.
Following a 13-13 first quarter standoff, the Bobcats roared and rallied for 25 second period points while limiting the Punchers to only 9 in the quarter to take a commanding 38- 22 lead at halftime. The Bobcats maintained their level of play into the second half and the Punchers were left punchless as the boys from Medina gained a 73-65 victory. Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, Jan. 8, the Bobcats traveled to Pearsall for their final non-district encounter of the season and dropped a close 56-52 decision in their final prep for district play. Black led the Bobcats at Pearsall with 25 points while Handley added 8.
