By Tim McGrath BCC Sports Writer

The Boerne Greyhounds raced out to an early 17-9 first quarter lead and extended the margin to 33-20 at halftime on their way to a 73-53 victory over the visiting Bandera Bulldogs in the District 27-3A basketball opener played Friday, Jan. 11 at Boerne.
Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs completed their non-district schedule with an impressive 68-54 victory at Ingram. Ty Neff led the Bulldog effort against Ingram with 32 points that included 5 of 7 from the field, 4 of 6 from 3-point range and a perfect 10 for 10 from the free-throw line. Cullen McGuire hit for 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds while Aaron Shackleford added 9 points and 6 boards for the Dogs at Ingram.
"Ingram is a tough place to play. Their kids do a great job of shooting 3's. Ty Neff had an outstanding shooting night for us. It was a good win heading into district," Bandera coach Brett Morris said.
At Boerne, the Greyhounds quick-start and resulting momentum proved to be the difference in the game. The Bulldogs had some bright spots in the game as Shackleford hit for 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds while Neff added 16 points and 6 boards to the Bandera effort.
Morris remains optimistic despite the loss in the district opener. "The boys played extremely hard. We missed too many opportunities to score to stay up with them. If we stay positive and keep growing as a basketball team, I still like our chances in district," Morris explained.
