Harper over Lady Cats in district opener

The Harper Lady Longhorns overcame an early Medina Lady Bobcat lead to earn a 35-28 victory in the basketball season district opener played on Friday, June 4, at Harper.
The Lady Bobcats started off quickly at Harper by taking a 9-5 lead after the first quarter of play but the Lady Longhorns fought back to knot the score at 14-14 at the half.
In the third quarter, the girls from Harper rallied for 15 points to take a 29-21 lead over the Lady Cats and held on for the victory.
Hannah Buettner led the Lady Cats with 14 points and 4 rebounds while Whitley Whitewood added 4 points and 5 rebounds. Nikki Sandidge also hit for 4 points while Abby Seymour, Lauren Ortiz and Brittany Harrison all contributed 3 points each. Harrison also pulled down 5 rebounds.
The Lady Cats continued District 27A play with a home game on Tuesday, Jan. 8 against Nueces Canyon and travel to Mason on Friday, Jan. 11 for another district matchup against the Lady Punchers. On Tuesday, Jan. 15, the Lady Cats return home to play the Junction Lady Eagles. Tipoff will be 6 pm for both games.
