By Tim McGrath BCC Sports Writer

The Lady Texans of Wimberley took full advantage of a cold-shooting Bandera Lady Bulldog team to take a 53-23 decision in the district basketball opener for both teams played on Saturday, Jan. 5 at Wimberley.
The Lady Texans got off to a fast start on their home court, leading by a score of 11-1 after one quarter of play and turned it on in the second period to take a 21-8 lead into halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs simply could not put the ball in the basket on a consistent basis as the Lady Texans increased their lead to 42-14 after three quarters of play.
Lady Bulldog Head Coach David Farber expressed concern for the lack of an offensive spark at Wimberley as the Lady Dogs are now into the district portion of their schedule. "Dismal shooting kept us behind the 8-ball all night," Farber said.
On Friday, Jan. 11, the Lady Bulldogs will play host to the Boerne Lady Greyhounds in a 7 pm matchup at the Bandera gym. On Tuesday, Jan. 15, the Lady Dogs travel to Navarro for a matchup with the Lady Panthers.
At Wimberley, Jordan Junker led the Lady Dogs' effort with 11 points and 5 rebounds while Nicky Schoelles added 4 points and 6 rebounds and Shae Hopf 3 points and 4 rebounds against the Lady Texans. Taylor Schultz chipped in with 3 points while Nina Russell and Emily Frost had one point each for the Lady Bulldogs at Wimberley.
Russell also pulled down 5 rebounds for Bandera while Casey Olsen and Briana Mayhew grabbed 3 apiece and Cassie Henk 2 to round out the Lady Bulldogs effort at Wimberley.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Dogs fell to the Marion Lady Bulldogs 61-38 in non-district action played on Monday, Dec. 31 at Marion.
Nicky Schoelles led the Lady Bulldog scoring at Marion with 10 points while Olsen added 5 and Mayhew, Schultz, Junker, Russell and Amber Rasberry 4 each for the Lady Dogs. Hopf chipped in with 2 points and Josie Burnes.
