Angoras rush past Bobcats 35-14 at Rocksprings

The Rocksprings Angoras displayed a powerful and consistent running attack as they rushed past the visiting Medina Bobcats 35-21 in District 15A1 football action played on Friday, Oct. 26 at Rocksprings.
The victory by the Angoras, their second in district play, keeps their hopes alive for a 2012 postseason playoff berth with a 4-5 overall record but a 2-1 mark in district action.
At Rocksprings, the Angoras ground it out for a 35-14 victory over the Bobcats while Medina went to the air behind senior quarterback JD Ortiz in their attempt to keep up with the high-scoring home team. Ortiz completed 10 of 27 attempts for 193 yards and two touchdowns and scored another TD on a 1-yard run to lead the Bobcat offensive effort at Rocksprings. Weston Jenkins also completed his only pass attempt (11 yds) for the Bobcats.
On the receiving end, Jenkins had five catches for 54 yards and a touchdown, while Mitchell Black had two catches for 63 yards. Adrian Jackson had a pair of catches for 69 yards and a score and Michael Baker had one catch for seven yards for the Bobcats.
On defense, the Bobcats were led by linebacker Valentine Luna who recorded 20 tackles. The remaining Bobcat defenders all contributed to the Medina defensive effort at Rocksprings. Black chipped in with 8 tackles, Baker 7, Ben Dabney 6.5, Jackson 6.5 and a sack, Ryan Little 5, Garrett Simon 4.5, Joel Arreola 4, Jason Ross 4, Thomas Wheatley 2.5, and Dillon Asher, Jenkins and Jacob Lindstrom one tackle each.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in district play. D'Hanis (8-0, 3-0) and Sabinal (7-1, 3-0) hold down the top two spots in District 15A1 Div II with two games remaining on the schedule.
The Bobcats play Friday, Oct. 26 at Leakey where they will take on the Eagles at 7:30 pm. The following week the Bobcats wrap up the district season at home against the Nueces Canyon Panthers.
