2012-10-11BHS student athletic trainers 'invaluable'
By Mary "Doc" Bolan Special to the Courier

One group of students that are extremely important to the BHS athletic department are the student athletic trainers. They assist me, the staff athletic trainer, by performing a wide variety of duties including setting up water and equipment for games and practices, helping with treatments and the daily operation of the training room, packing the necessary equipment and medical kits for our out-of-town games, plus performing basic first aid and taping of athletes needing assistance.
There is no possible way I can get all the things I need to get done without my student trainers. They are invaluable to me and they serve as extensions of myself. I can't thank them enough and I appreciate very much all of the time and effort they put into helping not only me, but the entire athletic department.
This year in particular, I am blessed with a great group of kids. Many of the duties and functions that athletic trainers perform occur behind the scenes, which explains why they may not always get the recognition and praise they deserve.
I want all of my student trainers to know that I can't begin to tell them how much I appreciate them and their efforts in helping not only me, but the athletes and coaching staff as well.
