By Tim McGrath BCC Sports Writer

The Medina Bobcats ran into a swarm of stinging Yellowjackets last week as the home team took a decisive 34-12 victory in non-district football action played on Friday, Sept. 28 at Runge. The game marked the end of the 2012 non-district season as all teams will have an open date on Friday, Oct. 5 before returning to the gridiron for the start of the District season on Friday, Oct. 13.

The Bobcats will open District play against the D'Hanis Cowboys at D'Hanis with kickoff set for 7:30 pm.

The Bobcats concluded the non-district season with a 2-3 mark with the loss at Runge. The Bobcats will use the open week to heal some bumps and bruises as they prepare for D'Hanis and the start of the District 15 1A Div II season.

Several Medina starters saw limited action at Runge. Bobcat senior quarterback JD Ortiz accounted for nearly 200 yards in total offense at Runge by completing 11 of 21 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown while rushing 9 times for another 56 yards.

Ortiz led the Bobcats in rushing with 56 yards in nine carries while Garrett Simon chipped in with 51 yards on 7 tries.
