The Brackett Tigers are on a roll in 2012 and they continued to roll on with their fourth straight win of the season, a convincing 31-7 victory over the Medina Bobcats in non-district football action played on Friday, Sept. 21 at Medina.
With the victory, the Tigers improve their record to 4-0 on the year while the Bobcats fall to 2-2 and will travel to Runge on Friday, Sept. 28 to take on the Yellowjackets in the season's final non-district encounter.
Next week, the Bobcats will have an open date on Friday, Oct. 5 as they prepare for the 15-1A season that gets underway on Friday, Oct. 18 at D'Hanis.
The Bobcats welcome the open week as they recover from a rash of nagging bumps and bruises that has had an effect on the Bobcat performance of late. Medina Head Coach Brandon Allen remains optimistic about his team while looking forward to the Runge game as a good test for the Bobcats.
"We got off to a shaky start early (vs. Brackett) but played much better in the second half," Allen said. "Runge will be a good test for us. They have good size and speed and have defeated two of our district opponents recently (Nueces Canyon and Leakey)," Allen explained. "We're banged up a little with some key injuries but we will use the open week to try to get healthy. With just 18 players, it (injuries) becomes an issue from here on out," Allen said.
Senior quarterback JD Ortiz went to the air 31 times against Brackett, completing 12 for 143 yards and a touchdown in the Bobcat offensive effort against the Tigers.
The Bobcats senior running back Adrian Jackson saw limited action and rushed only four times for 16 yards.
Jackson is expected to go versus Runge on Friday.
In the receiving department, Weston Jenkins led all Bobcat receivers with 4 catches for 59 yards and a touchdown while Michael Baker had 4 catches for 42 yards. Mitchell Black had a pair of receptions for 29 yards and Dillon Asher had two catches for 13 yards against Brackett.
