Senior running back Jordan Fraga rushed for 307 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Devine Warhorses to a 60-25 victory over the Bandera Bulldogs in non-district Class 3A football action played on Friday, Sept. 7 at Bandera.
The Warhorses' thundering ground attack totaled 581 yards on 79 rushing attempts with Fraga leading the way with 34 carries for 307 yards and four scores.
The Warhorses scored on their first possession of the game when they went 68 yards in ten plays capped off by Fraga's 15-yard run for a touchdown.
Fraga ran it in for a two-point conversion to give the Warhorses an early 8-0 lead with 8:15 remaining in the opening period.
The home team Bulldogs countered when running back Fabian Muniz raced 41 yards for a Bandera touchdown at the 3:08 mark of the first quarter.
Shane Montooth booted the extra point for Bandera and the score read 8-7 in favor of Devine.
In the second period, the Warhorses scored first on a Cook 1-yard TD run before the Bulldogs struck back again, this time on a Michael Miller 26-yard run with 7:57 still left in the first half. Miller's TD closed the gap and brought the Bulldogs to within three points of the lead at 16-13. The Warhorses answered with a pair of scoring drives culminating in Fraga TD runs of 3 and 1 yards to take a 32-13 lead at the halftime break.
The Warhorses tacked on four more scores in the second half including a 63-yard Fraga burst late in the third period.
Bandera managed some highlights of their own in the second half as Muniz and Miller again found the end zone for the Bulldogs. Muniz scored on a 5-yard run in the third period while Miller dashed 53 yards for a Bulldog score in the final quarter of play.
The Bulldogs rushed for an impressive 351 yards on 35 attempts but were unable to move the ball through the air for the second straight week.
The Bulldogs totaled 20 yards passing against Devine.
Muniz led all Bandera rushers with 172 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Miller carried 11 times for 121 yards and two scores for the Bulldogs while Noah Nelson gained 34 yards on three tries and Jonathan Stoufflet 16 yards on one carry for Bandera.
The Bulldogs return to action this Friday night, Sept. 14, when the Llano Yellow Jackets swarm into Bandera for a 7:30 pm encounter at Bulldog Stadium.
JV, Frosh v Devine
On Thursday, September 6, the JV Bulldogs dropped a 61-31 decision at Devine while the Freshmen Bulldogs came out on the short end of a 44-8 score. Landon Ventura had a 38-yard TD run for the JV Bulldogs while quarterback Joe Rodriguez added a 30-yard run for a score and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Cody Jacobson (7 yards) and Brady Keane (40 yards) at Devine. Utah Hicks scored on a 25-yard run for the freshmen Bulldogs.
Hicks passed to Chris Taylor for the two-point conversion.
