The Bandera Lady Bulldogs finished runner-up in the Silver Bracket of the Tex-Fest Volleyball Tournament played on Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18, at Wimberley before returning home to defeat Comfort in a match played on Tuesday, August 21, at Bandera High School.
Lady Bulldog Head Coach Dee Heiner had high praise for the Lady Bulldogs for their outstanding effort at Wimberley and spoke of the significance of the runner-up finish. "This is the best place that we've received in the past six years since I've been coaching in Bandera," Heiner said.
The Bandera girls went all the way to the Championship game against Kerrville Tivy and kept it close in the best-of-three matches as Tivy edged the Lady Bulldogs out by scores of 27-29 and 23-25 in the Championship matches.
Lady Bulldog Stat Leaders for all matches played in the Tex-Fest include Madelynn Kinsel with 36 kills, Catrina Sampson 102 assists and McKenna Mangold's 96 digs.
Against Comfort, the Lady Dogs started off slowly but rebounded to take three straight matches after dropping the first two to the Lady Bobcats by margins of 23-25 and 24-26. The Lady Bulldogs then rallied for a 25-9 decision followed by 25-14 and 15-12 wins to earn the victory.
Kinsel led the charge against Comfort with 16 kills while Sampson added 34 assists and Mangold 36 digs to the Bandera effort. Dana Lohrke had 3 blocks and Kinsel served up 6 aces as the Lady Bulldogs earned the victory over the Lady Bobcats of Comfort.
JV Lady Bulldogs
The JV Lady Bulldogs, coached by Brooke Ashcraft, had their own runner-up finish at the Devine Arabian Volleyball Tournament played on Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18. The JV Lady Dogs defeated Uvalde by scores of 25-17, 26-24 before setting down against Hondo with scores of 25-15 and 25-23. The host team Devine Lady Warhorses took the Championship game by scores of 25-27 and 17-25.
The Bandera JV girls defeated Comfort in two sets 25-14 and 25-21.
Brittani Adams had 3 kills and Cara Gillaspy had 4 kills and 2 aces for the JV Lady Dogs against Comfort.
